NEWFOUND LAKE (back panel, with a drawing of three trout strung from a
branch)
Cannot be surpassed by any body of water in New England for its wonderful
scenery, its rugged cliffs, its sandy beaches, its wooded shores, its
sparkling waters and great variety of fish. It appeals to the tourist and
camper, the lover of nature, the weary who wants rest and quiet, the seeker
after health and sportsmen, for the latter there is fishing for the heart’s
content.
NEWFOUND LAKE is about 1000 feet above sea level, contains 10 square
miles of water, it is 8 miles long and 3 miles wide. Its chief tributaries
are the numerous trout brooks that flow from springs among the surrounding
mountains. Since 1900 millions of fish-fry have been placed in these waters
annually. The annual report of the Bristol Fish and Game Association shows
that during the last twelve months the following fish-fry have been placed
in the lake and brooks: 1,800,800 White Perch, 156,000 Brook Trout, 50,000
Rainbow Trout, 70,000 Lake Trout, 150,000 Landlocked Salmon, 170,000
Pacific Salmon, 5,000 White or Aureolus Trout, 40,000 Lake Superior White
Fish, aside from these species of fish the lake contains an abundance of
Pickerel, Cusk, Yellow Perch, Hornpout, Chub, Dace, Eels, Shiners, Smelt,
etc. Trout weighing 25 pounds and salmon 22 pounds have been taken from
these waters. Open season (summer) April 1st to September 1st, (winter)
January 1st to March 1st. If you love fishing try this lake once and you
